at the Mill
we pride ourselves in working with some of the best local suppliers in the region. When we bought the pub we had a vision that we could help local business thrive and we now have some 120 of them on the books!
Its important that we get the best quality we can and bring it to life in the service and offering we give our customers. In the coming weeks we will showcase the various suppliers on these pages. There are some brilliant local farmers doing a sterling job and the quality is just fab. In the meantime we have listed just a few of the outstanding companies we have the pleasure of working with.
Bridge Farm
Tucked away behind the village of Lingfield is Bridge Farm. A highly successful pig farm has over time developed its business to include the organic rearing of pigs and butchery to produce some of the best cuts of Pork we have seen. Whether it be a belly of Pork or smoked bacon Niall and his team deliver every time. www.bridgefarmlingfield.co.uk
Jenkin’s Greengrocers
One of our original suppliers and never one to let us down. Jenkins deliver fresh fruit and veg in the early hours of the morning to ensure we get the best produce that is sustainably grown in season. Driving through the night to pick out the ‘pick of the crop’ from Covent Garden straight in from home counties producers including St Nicholas Potatoes of Kent and various vegetables from Thanet Earth.
M&J Seafoods
One of the larger business suppliers we use. We decided not to use local fish mongers to supply our seafood. After meeting representatives from M&J we were particularly impressed by there pro-active stance on sustainable fishing techniques. They only supply us wish fish that is in season and is sustainably harvested from one of our countries biggest resources, the ocean. In many cases the fish are line caught or use nets that do not harm endangered species.
Chapel Down Vineyard
English wine just seems to be getting better and better. After trying the Chapel Down Bacchus Reserve back in 2007 we knew we were onto a winner. Based in Tenterden in the Heart of The Weald of Kent this vineyard consistently produces world class wines that rival that of France and the New World. The advantage is it’s right on our doorstep and it all tastes great from the NV Brut through to the Pinot Noir. www.englishwinesgroup.com
Roly Poly Puds
Ok this one is cheating a bit. The story goes that Jason’s better half Katy one day made us some triple chocolate brownies as a special for our Sunday menu… to cut a long story short the customers love them and now Katy creates all our desserts at home in a bonified cottage industry style, all fresh and delivered to our door that day ready for the hordes of guests to enjoy.
Weald Smokery
If its speciality food you want then this is the place, a quaint shop that fronts a traditional smokery boasting some of the best smoked meat and fish in the South-East. This small family run business is a vital part of our alfresco style summer menu. You’ve got to try the smoked venison its is simply amazing and the perfect compliment to a sunny day sitting at our waterside getaway. www.wealdsmokery.co.uk
Sussex Cheeseman
Yes that’s right there really is a business called The Cheeseman. This brilliant little firm fill the van up with cheeses from Sussex, Surrey and Kent, drive to us once a week and let us choose some of the best quality and interesting cheeses you can imagine. And we don’t even need to mention how good the olives are, the speak for themselves. www.thecheeseman.co.uk
VT Meats
One of the most popular and most important ingredients on our menu is our steaks. Jason and Tony deliberated long and hard on where to find the perfect cuts of meat. After a lot of samples and endless stoking of the Barbeque (not to mention a couple of bottles of Oz Shiraz) they decided that VT meats of Edenbridge could deliver the goods. They source the cows from Sevenoaks and a highly trained team of Butchers ensure we get the perfect cut of everything from a Rib eye to a Fillet to the all important topside of Beef for our Sunday Roasts.
Westerham Brewery
Established in 2004 by Robert Wickes this local Microbrewery locally sources its malts and hops locally and suppliers to the local market, all in an effort to keep that carbon footprint down. The ales are all top notch and we particularly recommend the Freedom ale and Grasshopper Best Bitter. Their mission statement is simple “produce the best ale we can” and we for one firmly believe they are doing just that. www.westerhambrewery.co.uk
Shepherd Neame
From a microbrewery to one of the Countries most successful regional brewers we work closely in partnership with Shepherd Neame to create a strong Brand ethos that is steeped in history and quality. Colin was particularly impressed with there creation of a new microbrewery in Faversham that is creating a great range of individual ales to make guest appearances at our venues. We are also looking forward to Colin being allowed to have a little tinkle around and produce some of our own unique tipples. www.shepherdneame.co.uk
